Price

This is one of the most important factors in determining if the HTC Shift is right for you. Pricing is starting at around $1500 to $2000, though that will probably to come down shortly after supply increases. That is a lot of “hard-earned” money to pay for something which can’t replace your main computer and when you can get wi-fi laptops at half the price its a difficult dicision to make in purchasing a Shift unit. However, I am happy to say if you’re in the market to get an UMPC, the Shift is worth a long, hard look. It’s pretty much the only game in town with a real keyboard and 3G connectivity.

SNAPVUE

SnapVue is basically the Windows Mobile side of things. On the SnapVue homescreen, you get a nice Today plugin. It shows the time, date, weather, emails, contacts, SMSs, calendar and settings. The issue is that since HTC has not provided us with the full Windows Mobile experience, you are limited in what you can do.

Viewsonic is not exactly a name brand monitor, and now we can see why that is. Mike’s monitor has been having issues since day one, and now look at it!

The pixels seem to have bled out, and now a big portion of his screen is unreadable.

Mike called Viewsonic, and told them about the issue. Viewsonic’s suggestion? Ship it to us at your expense for repairs. Sounds all fine and well right? Well here’s the full story.

Mike has had this monitor for a couple of years, and has been trying since day one to get it repaired. Agent after agent at Viewsonic have declined to have the issue resolved for Mike in a reasonable fashion. The only option Mike has is to send his monitor away for repairs at one of Viewsonic’s facilities.

This is clearly a screen defect, and should have been replaced by Viewsonic on Mike’s initial call, and even now, they refuse to replace it. Apparently since it is stated in the warranty that they have to fix it in some remote location, Mike doesn’t have a choice but to ship it at his own expense…(Have you seen the shipping rates on a monitor today?) Mike is on a very fixed income, and to ship this monitor out to Viewsonic, only to be in limbo for god knows how long while they take their time repairing it is not feasable.

After talking to Viewsonic’s RMA services today, a lady by the name of Cindy informed Mike that there are no Managers or Supervisors who work on a Saturday or Sunday over at Viewsonic. So what other form of recourse is there to make Viewsonic just replace the monitor?

Come on Viewsonic! Just replace it and keep a customer who will continue to purchase Viewsonic monitors, because over here at NerdyBlog, we wouldn’t be caught dead with one.

powncelogosmall.jpgIn the last 24hrs, Pownce has gone from being a social website where the only way to join was to be invited, to being completely open for anyone to join.

What is Pownce you ask? Pownce describes itself as “…a way to send stuff to your friends”. Pownce had been around for about 6 months if I had to guess and hadn’t really stormed onto the social networking scene. Pownce basically takes what Twitter does and adds more features. Twitter is place to constantly update what you are doing. Think of Twitter like a one sentence blog submitted multiple times a day. Constant status messages so to speak. Well, Pownce takes this approach and instead of just text status messages, you can send or post pictures, links, files, events, and even the more regularly used status type updates.

Why join this site? I don’t know. I don’t see anything terribly innovative about it. I’m trying it out but it just doesn’t have enough for me to sway from Facebook. Overall, my personal opinion is that it isn’t anything special, nothing to run and join but if you want to try something different, check it out.

If you want to see a profile on Pownce, feel free to check out mine by clicking the banner below:

2693.jpgToday Samsung has released details on a new 25.5 inch monitor they are producing.

Some of the key features are a height adjustable stand, built-in speakers, full 1080p input, and super fast response time (5MS).

This monitor also has a maximum display resolution of 1920 x 1200 and a contrast ratio of 1000:1

This is a very nice looking monitor for someone who needs a large desktop work surface, and likes to listen to music while droning away at some philosophy paper that was due last week and I never even started on……. I mean uh….. yeah….

This monitor looks great, and has a nice large display resolution that would allow you to be quite productive.

[ From Samsung ]

The 2693HM has everything that you need. With a Height Adjustable Stand (HAS), built-in-speakers, HDMI technology, full 1080p input and fast response time, you will be able to power through a work day and watch a movie or play games with all of the extra free time that you will have. Not to mention, the eye catching bezel design will fit perfectly in public view or in the comfort of your home office. The 2693HM is Microsoft Vista Certified and works hard while looking good. With the 2693HM it’s not hard to imagine.

Maybe we should contact Samsung and see if maybe we can get our hands on one?  Do they even know we exist? My guess is probably not, but they will soon enough!
