Price

This is one of the most important factors in determining if the HTC Shift is right for you. Pricing is starting at around $1500 to $2000, though that will probably to come down shortly after supply increases. That is a lot of “hard-earned” money to pay for something which can’t replace your main computer and when you can get wi-fi laptops at half the price its a difficult dicision to make in purchasing a Shift unit. However, I am happy to say if you’re in the market to get an UMPC, the Shift is worth a long, hard look. It’s pretty much the only game in town with a real keyboard and 3G connectivity.

Really, what has happened with this? Twitter used to be so cool! I loved throwing my status up there, and getting everything updated at once, including my personal blog and Facebook. But now all it seems to be is up, down, up, down. Its especially annoying when you get a whole bunch of messages at once about the people you’ve been following.

So whats the point anymore? New people, old people, fans, haters all go on to Twitter and they either get a page that doesn’t load, or an error message. All this is doing is making users (like moi) hate on the site, post less, and not want to come back. The guys at Twitter really need to get their (insert colorful swear here) together, and make the site what it used to be. Close it down, recode the damn thing, get another server, whatever you need to make the thing awesome like it used to be!

Have you ever just wanted to throw a movie on your Ipod and go? Maybe watch it on the bus or at work, or even at school? (Because really who listens to those teachers anyways?) Before you had to download it from another source, find the program to convert it, take forever and a day to do so, and by that time you’ve lost your interest and don’t even wanna watch the damn thing anymore. Why isn’t there an easier way? Now there is! Apple, after a delay, as finally made movies for rent and sale on ITunes for Canadians. Woot!

Wikia is launching its new Wikia Search engine today. This new unique ‘hackable’ engine lets you do a search and if you’re not happy with the results you’ll be able to change them, and the changes effect everyone using the engine.

If after you search you find that the pages are to low or high in the listings, you can rate it and influence its position. You can totally delete entries or hand writes new ones. Also you can rewrite the text blurb and even add code. This is good for people who don’t know how to describe stuff. Someone else can just fix it and it’ll make more sense! I need something like this sometimes.

e Sell For LessSo usually when you’re looking for something unusual, or different, or new, or old, you think of Wal-Mart. They carry almost everything right? Well almost anyways. It’s not like you can find apartments, or vehicles or pets through them … or can you?

Bell SUED!We reported earlier on how Bell is on the verge of a lawsuit.

The Quebec consumer watchdog is filing a class action lawsuit against BCE Inc for over $1.5 billion dollars. The lawsuit states that the watchdog company wants 80% of the monthly internet bill for the throttling of the bandwith, $600 per user for false advertising, and $1500 per subscriber for privacy rights. There’s also a sub lawsuit in the works from the University of Ottawa Law Offices that specialize in internet cases. They’re also claiming that Bell is sniffing packets.

Creative Commons License photo credit: euthmanThe internet is a place where you can be what you want, say what you want, and do what you want; or so it was once upon a time.

With most Canadian internet service providers, throttling customers seems to now be common practice. Rogers does it, Bell does it, and now all of the companies that lease connections from Bell are being throttled.

The internet is supposed to be a place where all things are treated equal. Traffic should not be throttled, or shaped on a whim by providers. You pay for a service, and regardless of what you are using it for, you should receive exactly what you pay for.

This is not so here in Canada and elsewhere in the world.

Traffic shaping measures have become common practice among some of the largest ISPS in North America, and the people are finally sick of it!

Here in Ottawa tomorrow afternoon, a protest is being held at Capital Hill. Myself as well as my staff would like to encourage all of you to come out to this event, and show your utter disgust with the internet service providers here in Canada, and across North America.

Besides change only happens if you work at it! Come out, and support your fellow internet friends, colleagues, and random Facebook friends that added you that one night you went out and got totally wasted and….. Well come out and show your support to change the way the internet is controlled here in Canada.

All of us here at NerdyBlog.com support and admire everyone who gets involved in this protest, and helps bring change to Canadian internet services!

Hit the jump for more information about the protest as well as information from CBC News
