Hey everyone,
I’m a Redditor, and every now and again I find something I want to talk about. Something that isn’t just a picture or news or a web-page, but something that will last for much longer, and could potentially be something that everyone could share (well, almost everyone.) This time, I’ve discovered an app.
If you’re a Redditor too then you may have seen this, as it was on the front page today (and Tweeted about by the Reddit alien). This is an app called Stay Alive, where, as you may have guessed, you have to stay alive. It’s a simple 2D game much like that copter game, if anyone is familiar with that. However, this has more of a dynamic to it than just flying through and avoiding obstacles. You have to steer a space ship through space and collect orbs. Not only that, but you have to shoot down other space ships trying to destroy you. You score in three different ways; the distance you travel (measured in metres), the amount of enemy ships you destroy and the amount of orbs you collect. Throughout your dodging fire-fight you come across different items. I haven’t quite worked out what these items do, as I’m terrible at this, but I have found boost strips, stars and exclamation points so far, though I’m unsure what the stars and exclamation points do.
This game, developed in around one-hundred hours, is free on the Android Market and 99¢ on the App Store for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. I would highly recommend it. I can’t see it providing a lot of entertainment in the long-term, but it seems perfect for when you’re sitting around and need something to make the time pass quicker. It has potential of being rather addictive and perfect for those kind of situations.
So far, this has a 4.6 rating on the Android Market (from ~90 reviews) and currently not enough ratings on iTunes in order to give an accurate rating. Watch a video demonstration here if the pictures and customer ratings aren’t a good enough description for you.
