scams.gifSo this is my first post in an all new category called scams. This category was made because of all of the emails I have received pertaining to sending money over-seas or receiving money from someone over-seas.

Here’s the first e-mail from a scammer and my response. I intend to fully explore every one of these scams to help the general public learn what to watch out for, and how to go about avoiding these scams. More after the jump!

My last post was about how awesome it was that Rogers sent me a Blackberry Pearl for my girlfriend at no cost as a Christmas promotion.

I was quite happy too. That was until I found out who it was being shipped by. United Parcel Service (UPS)  This company has a lot of issues with actually delivering to peoples addresses. They are more inclined to deliver to their warehouse out on Stevanege Drive which is quite literally in the middle of nowhere! Anyways, the driver made an attempt to deliver the phone on Monday to no avail, as I was not at home.

After a phone call to UPS, they changed the address to my work address. Apparently, they need a suite number to come into a building leased by the Canadian Federal Government. So after another “failed attempt” I called yet again to see if they needed some small tidbit of information that was preventing them from delivering. The answer I got was that UPS did not require further information, and that they couldn’t believe that the delivery was not made.

A third attempt was made on Wednesday. Once again it failed, and at this point I was quite irate. I called and spoke to agent after agent, supervisor after supervisor who ASSURED me the phone would be delivered today.

As it turns out, the SUPERVISOR I spoke to apparently was not quite happy with how I spoke to him, and had the phone sent back to Concord Ontario. I found this out this morning and promptly called UPS once again. I was told they didn’t know why it was sent there. After being told they had no idea, I had enough. I headed over to Consumerist.com and took a look to see if they had a list of executives to fire off an email carpet bomb as Consumerist.com has dubbed it.

Sure enough, they had the information I was looking for and I drafted an email to every executive on the list provided. Within an hour, I had a call from Cynthia, a customer relations manager and assistant to the CEO of UPS. She resolved the issue as far as I know, and my phone should be delivered tomorrow.

I am hoping this is the case, because I would hate to have to write another email, chase another agent, and worst of all, have this phone show up AFTER Christmas.

I will be sure to post the email I sent to the executives today as soon as I copy it down from work.

Anyways, I have faith that these people will get their act together and have my phone delivered. If not, I will make sure to contact Rogers corporate reps, and let them know they have chosen a terrible courrier to handle their business.

I’m not quite sure if I had posted the deal that Rogers gave me on my new Blackberry Pearl, but in case I didn’t here’s what they gave me.

$0 Red Pearl
$25 Price Plan
250 Daytime
Unlimited Evenings and Weekends at 6PM
Unlimited Incomming Calls
Unlimited Rogers to Rogers Calling
$10 Communicate Pack
Caller ID
Voice Mail
125 Text Messages

$15 Personal E-Mail
Unlimited Blackberry E-Mail
Unlimited Blackberry Messenger

This deal was given to me by their retentions department, by asking nicely.

From there, I thought a Blackberry might be a good idea for the girlfriend. I made another call to retentions, and asked if they would be willing to do the same on her line.

Based on a 3 year contract renewal for her line, they gave me the same deal. Needless to say, I am happy with what they offered, and glad they were willing to accomodate me.

Rogers has made me happy to be a customer with their company.

Thanks Rogers!

redpearl.gifSo after a very long ordeal with Bell Mobility’s customer service, someone from UsedOttawa.com was able to take over my Bell contract thus freeing me from their clutches. It took us nearly three days on the phone, and a lot of negotiating.

We spoke to several representatives, six of which hung up on myself and the person taking over the line. Bell is slowly headed downhill in my opinion and are therefore trying to milk every customer they have for all the money they have.

Anyways, I have reverted back to what is in my opinion the only wireless choice for me. Rogers Wireless. Their customer service is available 24 hours a day, and are more than willing to help me, and show me all of the options available to me.

I am now the proud owner of a red Blackberry Pearl (8100). Yes data is expensive with Rogers, however it has come a long way since the last time I had a Blackberry. I am quite happy with the plan they offered me, and how helpful they have been with me.

So to you Bell Mobility, I really didn’t appreciate the treatment given to me by your customer service, and I also do not wish to pay over $100 for cellular service on a single line.

That being said, there is a wireless spectrum auction coming up in May of next year. I am quite excited, as this auction is being held to encourage more competition in Canada. Right now, there is not much competition apart from the “Big 3″ (Rogers, Bell, Telus).

In May, it is my belief that we will see at least one new entrant to the market and that alone could change cellular service and competition as we know it! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for our wireless industry!
